Scouting FAQ

What is the cost?

The cost per Scout is $180 a year or $20 a month for 9 months (Sept-May), with an annual registration fee of $85 due annually. The monthly dues include the pack campout costs, the Pinewood Derby event (including cars and banquet), awards earned yearly, and a pack t-shirt.

The annual popcorn sale can offset dues, with 30% of your popcorn sales going toward dues and 30% toward council fees.

Pack Dues $180

Registration Fee $85

Total Annual Dues $265

We never want finances to be a barrier to Scouting, so please discuss any situation with the pack leadership.

When do we meet?

Pack 113 meets weekly throughout the school year (Aug - May) on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 pm. During the summer break, we hold monthly outdoor activities. We meet at Second Ave Baptist Church

823 E 2nd Ave, Rome, GA 30161.

What is Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouts is an active program for kindergarten through fifth-grade children that encourages learning, friendship—and, most of all—getting out and having fun! With an emphasis on outdoor events, small gatherings, and activities with family, Cub Scouts is a great way to let your kids safely socialize, learn, and have fun.

What is Scouts BSA?

Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting experience for boys and girls ages 11 through 17. Service, community engagement, high adventure, and leadership development become increasingly important parts of the program as youth lead their activities and work toward earning Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout. Cub Scouts transition to Scouts BSA after fifth grade and enter Troop 113. Scouts in Troop 113 have monthly opportunities for high adventure, including white water rafting, rock climbing, and backpacking.

Do Cub Scouts camp?

YES! Pack 113 organizes family campouts for all Scouts and their families. Typically, a campout is one night, from Saturday morning to Sunday morning. Campouts are laid back and allow families time to relax around a campfire, roast s’mores, fish, play games, or explore. We camp at Camp Sidney Dew, off Everett Springs Rd in Armuchee, GA, the Lock and Dam Park in Rome, or nearby State Parks. Older Cub Scouts (Webelos grades 4-5) camp and hike monthly. We also participate in campouts with more structured activities along with other Cub Scout packs. These camporees include activities like archery, bb’s, canoeing, and more.

I’ve never been camping or have no equipment, can I go camping?

YES! You only need a tent and sleeping bag for Cub Scout family camping. The pack also has some additional equipment you can borrow if needed. Most families also bring a pillow, camp chair, and camp mattress. The pack leaders, parents, and the Cub Scouts prepare meals.

How can I help?

Scouting is a volunteer-led program and relies on parent involvement to be successful. No Scouting experience is required to help; it is just a desire to help our youth become successful citizens. Pack leaders are all parents of Scouts and have various backgrounds, careers, and interests. Please consider supporting the Scouting movement by volunteering.

What is advancement?

Advancement in Scouting is the acknowledgment and recognition of skills, traits, and knowledge learned by the Scout. Scouts work on activities, and as they complete these requirements, they earn adventure loops or pins. When a Scout completes all the required adventures for their rank, they are awarded the rank badge. Lion Scouts work toward the Lion Badge. Tiger Scouts work toward the Tiger Badge. Wolf Scouts work toward the Wolf Badge. Bear Scouts work toward the Bear Badge. Webelos Scouts work toward the Webelos Badge. Arrow of Light Scouts work toward the highest award in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light. You can track all your Scout’s advancement on the website scoutbook.scouting.org.
